Cafe Jazz Cardiff
Cafe Jazz, the number one jazz and blues club in the heart of Cardiff.
In the course of my profesional travels I usually visit Cardiff, the buzzing capital city of Wales, about once a month.
I always use the same friendly little hotel, the Sandringham, in St. Mary Street, the very heart of the city. It's convenient, economical, and generally a nice place to stay away from home.
Another attraction is the restaurant/cafe bar which hosts the Welsh Jazz Society's Jazz and Blues Club.
No matter which night of the week I stay there's something going on.
After a hard day's work and driving I can relax in the dining area and hear the musicians warming up in the stage section, while devotees of all ages drift in for the music which usually kicks in around 8:45 pm weeknights and a little later at the weekends.
Mondays - Jazz attic, a weekly session for South Wales' finest musicians and enthusistic amateurs for over 10 years.
Tuesdays - The Preservation Jazz Society present good-time jazz and swing in the trad style of the 20's and 30's in the frindly cafe bar atmosphere.
Wednesdays - a varied programme of quality music.
Thursdays - the best local bands and outstanding touring musicians from around the world take to the stage, presented by the Cardiff Jazz Society or the Welsh Jazz Society.
Friday night is Blues night - powerful, provocative, and usually irresistible, late night sessions starting around 10.00 pm. The hotel/cafe is situated at 21 St Mary Street in the heart of Cardiff. |
