New Rail connection for Ebbw Vale
Ebbw Vale has been reconnected to the national rail network. Regular passenger services returned to Ebbw Vale after a 46 year absence. A £30 million investment to the disused freight-only line has enabled services to tart operating betwen Ebbw Vale and Cardiff calling at Ebbw Vale Parkway, Newbridge, Risca, Pontymister, and Rogerstone. The project has been funded by the Welsh Assembly Government together with £7.5 million from the European Regional Development Fund and £7 million from steel producer Corus. The last passenger service to Ebbw Vale ended in 1962. There are now plans to provide a service between Ebbw Vale and Newport, currently covered by a dedicated bus service.
