Pot grown potatoes
If you wuld like to grow your own potatoes for delicious Sunday roasts (or cold wth those healthy salads!) but don't have the room for a vegetable plot, then you can always grow them in patio containers. You wll need a good sized container as you want to be able to top up the pots as the plants grow. Simply mix an equal amount of top-soil and compost and half-fill your container. Place the seed potatoes in slight holes or trenches approximately 8 centimetres apart. Finish off by covering in a good layer of top soil, about 8-15 centimetres. As the potatoes start to sprout you can continue adding a mixture of soil and compost, which will continue feeding the plants and encourage the potatoes to produce a bigger crop. This is the equivalent of banking up the soil around the stalks when grown in a plot. You can harvest the potatoes when the green tops start to yellow and die off. There's nothing to beat the taste!
