Social network fatigue
I've been reading a lot about 'social networking fatigue' lately. Seems like giant Facebook has seen its number of monthly users DROP for the first time. Source for this intel is the web analytics company Neilsen Online. Something like 400,000 less users went to the social networking site in January this year, which is getting on for a 5% drop compared to previous months. They're not the only ones. Bebo has seen an 8% drop in UK users since October 2007 and the mighty, all-conquering MySpace has lost 14% of its users in three months. It's not very likely that the era of social networking has come to a grinding halt just yet. AOL recently paid out $800 million to buy up Bebo so there's life in that dog yet. Maybe there's another reason other than boredom? Sits like Yuwie which share the advertising revenue with its members are still growing, and maybe members think it's fairer that some of the revenue that they generate with their page views comes to THEM rather than the likes of Rupert Murdoch! What do you think?
