Strange English words English is a rich and varied language with many variations spoken in different countries. For example American English differs in many ways. You could get in trouble in USA for saying you were going to eat faggots for example but in Birmingham England it merely means you are going to consume a savoury minced pork meatball. In America a 'pat on the fanny' would signify a light tap on the bottom, but in England it would be construed as touching a female's genitals. So language can get us all in trouble at times. Here are a few words possibly not familiar to those who live in America but quite familiar in England. 'Mard' or 'mardy' - meaning over sensitive emotionally 'Mard arse' - one who is 'mard' 'Titchy' - small stature 'Titch' - one who is small - can be used as a derogatory term or as an endearment 'Duck' - universal term of endearment in the North of England. The same applies to 'chuck' or 'love'. 'Sennetuct' - lazy, unable or unwilling to rise from a chair Contributor's Note These are words which in my experience are misunderstood or misconstrued according to geography
