The best fish and chip shop in the world
Fish and chips can be an emotive subject in the UK.
Many establishments will lay claim to the 'best' fish and chips. There are chains such as Harry Ramsdens selling Britain's original fast food takeaway. Howver in this reviewer's not so humble opinion there is a chip shop in Stoke-on-Trent which unfailingly fits the bill, time after time,and I unhesitatingly nominate it as Britain's best. I have travelled extensively in UK and Ireland in the course of my job and I have sampled the culinary delights from towns and villages all over this land. Still my vote goes to the Loftus fish and chip bar in St. Ann Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Part of the credit goes to their use of good old fashioned beef dripping to fry thefish and chips. None of this namby-pamby vegetable oil! The batter on the fish is light and crunchy and you can opt for breadcrumbs if that's your thing. Ruins a good fish,if you ask me! The chips are so in demand that there is always a fresh batch on the go. Smothered in salt and vinegar they are a perfect meal or snack. The portions are so huge you hadn't better be worried about your waistband. Any challengers for the title, post them here please.
